The agent of Villarreal's Giuseppe Rossi, Andrea Pastorello, has cast doubt over the possibility of the Italian striker joining Barcelona during this summer transfer window.
Despite the Camp Nou giants having a €45 million war chest to improve their squad, bringing in both Udinese's Alexis Sanchez and Rossi is not likely, according to the representative.
Barca are thought to be closing in on Sanchez, and Marca reports that Pastorello said: ''Rossi signing for Barca would be very difficult. If there is €45m to sign [new players] and Alexis goes to Barca for €30m then there is no money to pay for the transfer of Rossi.''
The agent insists it is up to Barcelona whether they want to sign the American-born forward or not, adding: "If the club wants Rossi, they must prove it. But if not, nothing happens. They are free to sign whoever they want. There will be no problem, football is football.''
Pastorello concluded by saying that if a move to Catalunya does not materialise, the 24-year-old could ''wait another year with Villarreal".
The Italian, who enjoyed a superb season in La Liga with the club from El Madrigal, scoring 32 goals in all competitions, was thought to be Barca's prime transfer target, but it now appears that they have turned their attention elsewhere.
